Week 7 of lessons

Ashlyn had her final swimming lesson today!  This week she had to be “tested” in various seasons of clothing starting with lightweight summer clothes, then fall clothes (long sleeved shirt, jeans and sneakers) and then winter clothes (fall clothes + a hoodie and jacket!).  She did awesome!  Her teacher said she was above average for her age.  Most kids her age require 35-40 lessons before they learn the swim/float/swim sequence.  Ashlyn did it in 30!  She also said she would like to use her for an ISR video because she is “textbook”!  Go Ashlyn!  We have 2 make up lessons that we will use in the next couple of weeks where Mrs. Sheri will show me what to do with Ashlyn in the pool to keep her skills up until next summer.  She also recommended a few refresher lessons early next season.  It was quite a challenge getting both kids up, fed, dressed and loaded up to drive 25 minutes each way for a 10 minute lesson every day for 30 lessons!  But I am VERY glad we did it and it gives me a little peace of mind having Ashlyn around water and I think she will love swimming next summer!  Here are some pictures and her video from her final week of lessons.

3 months old

Well, another month has come and gone and our little guy is already 3 months old!

Pax Facts:

I am unsure of his stats because we didn’t have a well check-up this month but I did take him in for congestion and he weighed 13lbs 15ozs!  Not sure if the congestion was from a cold he caught from his sister or dairy intolerance.  Still trying to figure out his tummy issues!

Eats:  Pretty much every 3 hours and these days it has been around the clock!  He must be going through a growth spurt or something because he wants to eat ALL of the time…even at night!  Sometimes he doesn’t even make it 3 hours.  When he takes a bottle he usually finishes 5 ozs without a problem.  I did a trial with formula while I was trying to figure out his fussy tummy but we are back to breastmilk only.  I am still cutting dairy out of my diet and it seems to help a little.  He is taking Prevacid for acid reflux and it helps a lot.  He still spits up a lot, but it doesn’t seem to be painful.  We also started a Vitamin D supplement this month.  Second to breast milk his favorite things to eat are his hands!  They are constantly in his mouth.  The doctor thought he may be teething early based on his drooling and “fisting”.  Haven’t seen any pearly whites pop through yet.

Wears: 3-6 month clothing and size 2 diapers.  Not sure about shoes because he has never had a pair on…and I can count on one hand the number of times he has had socks on.  He is very hot natured.

Sleeps:  Sporadically!  Had a good week where he was putting himself to sleep, but for the most part has to be rocked to sleep.  He still cat naps throughout the day and isn’t on a great sleeping schedule.  I am working very hard to normalize a routine for him!  He was going for almost 8 hours at night, but now is back to waking every 2-4 to eat.  I have heard from several friends that this is pretty common with boys and they aren’t as good of sleepers because they are more hungry.  Based on how fast he is growing, I think I agree!  He still sleeps pretty well in the car and will sleep for hours if he is held!  We are still swaddling him, but he usually ends up with one or both of his arms out when he starts to wake up.  He is a VERY light sleeper!

Other facts about Paxton at 3 months:  He is very vocal!  He chatters all of the time, laughs when he is tickled and definitely lets it be known when he is hungry!  He smiles often and always has his hands in his mouth.  He takes a pacifier, but isn’t a die-hard fan.  He tolerates tummy time for about 5 minutes and can raise his head up to 90 degrees.  He does the superman a lot when he is on his tummy.  He isn’t really interested in rolling from front to back, but can roll halfway from back to front and will be rolling all of the way over in no time.  His neck is getting a lot stronger and he can pretty much hold his head up without help.  He spends a little time in his Bumbo seat, but can’t quite do it on his own yet.  He still isn’t a big fan of the swing.  He prefers to be a part of the action and gets frustrated if he is left in one spot for too long.  His little feet and legs are constantly kicking and moving.  He likes bath time especially when his sister is in there too!  His hair has lightened up quite a bit and is a medium brown color and he is getting a bald spot from laying on his back.  His eyes are definitely changing from dark blue to a hazel/brown.  His eyes get really big sometimes if he gets startled or surprised.  He loves to watch TV!  He also loves music and will stop whatever he is doing (including eating) if the guitar is being played!  He is a great cuddler once he gets settled into a comfortable spot.  He usually squirms a lot and sometimes cries while he is trying to get comfortable…we call it the storm before the calm!  He loves to be outside and that is still my go to place (when we can tolerate the heat) when he gets fussy…which is rare these days!  He definitely is looking more like his momma ;)  He loves Sophie the Giraffe when he can steal it away from his sister.  He has the chubbiest, most kissable little cheeks and his thighs are starting to get a little meaty as well!  His nicknames are:  Pax, Paxman, Bubby and Handsome.  He is a very sweet boy and we fall more and more in love with him every day!  We love you Paxman!

Those big eyes I mentioned!

A quick trip to Abilene

We headed to Abilene for the weekend when Chance got off work on Friday.  We rolled into town pretty late Friday night...around 10:30!  Ashlyn didn't hit the sack until after midnight...a new record!  We had a fun weekend just hanging out.  Ashlyn and Jules played all weekend and had a blast!  They are really cute together!  Nenna and Papa got some good snuggle time with their grandbabies too!

Attempting a group nap...didn't happen!
The pool was pretty chilly

34&7

We celebrated my 34th birthday and our 7th anniversary with a mini family stay-cation at the Gaylord Texan Resort.  We had a blast eating, swimming, relaxing, walking around and just being out of the apartment!  Pop Pop, Gigi and Rah Rah came to the hotel Saturday night and hung out with the kids so Chance and I could celebrate our anniversary with an awesome dinner at the steakhouse!  It was a great celebration!  Photos from the weekend...in no particular order!
