Hemangioma Check-up

We had our routine check-up with Dr. Burns.  We are down to 1 dose a day of the Propranolol and so far we haven't seen any re-growth.  He wants us to continue this dose for a few more weeks then wean it.  We are excited about the thought of no medicine!  His initial plan was to laser a few years down the road if needed, but he says he has changed his thinking a little.  He has found that if he waits a few years and lets the tumor involute on its own the vascularity is occasionally replaced with fatty, fibrous tissue.  When that occurs, it requires liposuction along with laser treatments.  If he lasers early on, it usually involutes without complications.  So we scheduled our first laser treatment for December.  It is a very quick procedure, but it does require gas sedation due to the risk of movement during the procedure.  He hasn't had any injuries to the eyes and he wants to keep it that way (and we do too)!  The first procedure will be a low dose laser and the following 1-2 treatments will depend on how it responds.  They tell us the procedure is painfree (since they are sedated during the treatment and no real pain following).  He still feels very confident that down the road we won't even remember which cheek it was on!
