I spent almost a week in the hospital with kidney problems while I was pregnant with Ashlyn. How ironic is it that she was diagnosed with a bladder/kidney infection this week?!?! Poor baby. Just like kidney stones/problems should be illegal when you are pregnant, so should UTI's in babies. It just isn't fair! Ashlyn started out vomiting Sunday night and Monday. We took her to the doctor Monday because she wouldn't eat or drink anything. They told us it was a tummy virus and what to do. Small servings of liquids only, trying to keep her hydrated. Expect the whirly birds (our household name for #3) next. Well, on Tuesday she got a pretty high fever that didn't really break Wednesday either. Called the Dr. back because it just didn't seem like a tummy bug to me. Only 2 bouts of vomiting, no whirly birds and Chance nor I got sick. Went back to the doctor late Wednesday evening and they suspected a UTI. They had to catheterize her to get a urine sample (NOT FUN). It was positive. We started antibiotics that evening. Wednesday night was rough. I stayed home with her on Thursday because Chance had to go back to work (he had stayed home the first 3 days and worked from home). Her fever finally went away Thursday evening and we are crossing our fingers because it hasn't come back! She has been pretty miserable since Sunday night. Poor baby! This infection earned her a trip to a Urologist to rule out "reflux". A fairly common disorder that they usually grow out of where the urine doesn't completely empty from the bladder and goes back up into the kidneys. We are hoping this is just a case of bad luck! We'll keep you posted...
